About Me

Meeting With Food Suppliers

About a year ago, I started paying closer attention to the quality of the food in our restaurant. Instead of ordering from the cheapest vendor, we started meeting with different vendors to find the best fit for us. We were able to find an incredible business that really understood our needs. They also offered incredible prices on top-of-the-line foods, and it was really great to work with them. They helped us to completely renovate our menu, and we were really impressed with everything that they did for us. This blog is all about meeting with food suppliers and understanding how to streamline your restaurant.

Add Empanadas To Your Product Line

by Scarlett Newman

Empanadas can be added to your dining establishment's menu or to the inventory that you have on display inside of a vending machine or refrigerated food case. A wholesaler may feature sweet and savory filling types and several pastry pouch varieties.

What Is An Empanada?

An empanada is a baked or fried pastry that contains a meat or vegetable filling. The pastry may be light and fluffy or rich and buttery. Some wholesalers may sell pastry products that are gluten-free or low in sodium. An empanada manufacturing process involves preparing pastry shells and filling varieties. As the empanadas are assembled, an automated machine may distribute the filling mixtures directly into the center of the pastry shells.

Homemade empanadas will be prepared at a slower rate but will likely exhibit more attention to detail. An empanada is typically crescent-shaped. Fluting is a technique that will secure the edges of the pastry. The top layer of the pastry will need to be directly attached to the bottom layer of the pastry. The fluting may be performed manually or with the use of a machine.

How Can Empanadas Be Marketed?

An empanada is designed to be served hot. If your dining establishment is going to feature empanadas, contact a wholesaler and request pricing and product information. Empanadas can be sold as a main course or as a side dish that will serve as an accompaniment to the main course. A wholesaler may use chicken, beef, pork, potatoes, broccoli, cheese, and other savory ingredients to fill a series of empanadas.

If a wholesaler features some sweet products, they may use jelly, cream, and other sweet fillings for their product line. Consider the prices of the wholesale products to determine how much you will charge your customers for each empanada. A wholesaler may sell raw empanadas or products that have been fully cooked. If you will be adding a few types of empanadas to a vending machine or a refrigerated food case, you will likely want to sell products that are fully cooked and that can be heated up quickly.

You may need to invest in a microwave if you do not already have one available for your customers to use. If you decide to purchase uncooked products from a wholesaler, you will need to develop a cooking technique for the filled pastries. The products can be placed inside of an oven or a frying unit. Raw products should be stored in a freezer until you are ready to prepare them for your customers.
